Revenant: World of Darkness

The Revenants in the World of Darkness setting, first introduced through Vampire: the Masquerade, and later continued in Vampire: Requiem. There are two types of ghouls, and stay with me here, because this gets really confusing. Ghoul families are used as stock resources for food, hideouts, and other resources, for the vampires. The majority of Ghoul families are of the first type, and they don’t breed Revenants. The second type do, through a lot of incest, ad interspecies mingling. Revenants have blood that is close to that of vampires. A ghoul breeding with a vampire produces a revenant, –so by breeding down, a vampire can produce a Revenant, and by breeding up, a ghoul can produce a Revenant.

Referred to from now on in the lowercase, revenants are different from ghouls for various reasons, –blood, for one, which they have more of, and provides more benefits. Another is their aging; revenant with a pure hybrid of ghoul and vampire dna can live hundreds of years without access to vampire blood, whereas ghouls need vampire blood to live longer. After a fashion, when a revenant’s blood becomes more diluted with either human, or ghoul blood, they will age more accurately to that of a mortal.

Yet another instance of their uniqueness, is their disciplines, –unlike Ghouls, revenants are born with a basic set of Disciplines. Unlike vampires, which are born sometimes with more complex Disciplines, a revenant’s disciplines are usually novice level. Another difference, is their humanity. Unlike ghouls, which easily pass for humans, revenants have a lot of trouble passing for humans. Maybe even more than vampires, because revenants often don’t have the ability to be as charming. An accurate example would be like the antagonist family of cannibals in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
