Other Fun Undead People

Dhampir – A hybrid breed of vampire and human, though not usually quite dead, they’re not usually quite alive either, but still can’t technically be classified as “undead”. They do age much slower, and have a particular affinity for killing off their blood dependent cousins, the vampires.
Draugr – The ghost of a dead Viking warrior, according to old Norse folklore, or guardians of a rich tomb of a warrior, and sometimes believed to be an evil spirit that inhabits the body of a dead Viking warrior.
Ghoul – A general term that’s quite similar to a zombie, except that it originated in Arabian folklore, and it primarily evil, while zombies don’t actually have the capacity for free will. Ghoul, or “ghul”, literally means “demon”.
Jiang Shi – Called the “Chinese vampires” by Western cultures, the name literally means “stiff corpse”. Their main purpose in afterlife, is to jump around, attacking the living, –animals, and people, to kill and steal their life’s essence.
Jure Grando – The first vampire ever to appear in actual historical documents.
Lich – Lych is actually a word derived of an Old English term for a cemetery gate, and it means “corpse”. The Lich in fantasy is typically a corpse who was never interred.
Manananggal – Comes from Philippine folklore, and is close to a vampire, except is has wings and a whip like tail, usually a female, disguising herself as human, –she was a witch with evil powers that didn’t just drink blood, but devoured humans whole.
Myling – In Scandinavian folklore, the Myling are the evil spirits of dead children that were either murdered, or died without being baptised. They jump on their victims’ backs, and demand to be carried to the cemetery. However, they would grow steadily heavier, and would crush their victims. If a person was able to carry them the whole way, the Myling would kill them anyway out of rage.
Vampire – The quintessential undead, blood drinking, sometimes glamorous, sometimes hideous, monster featured in more horror fiction, and horror film, than any other fictional creature in existence.
